For keeping up with exhibitions, events, news and the great services on offer at the State Library of NSW.
The State Library of NSW is a dynamic cultural institution with an amazing history dating back to 1826. The Library has a massive collection of photographs, maps, books, diaries and letters, journals, magazines and also unusual objects (eg. author Mary Shelley’s hair!) which document the past and present of our cultural heritage. Basically, all great stories about Australia lead back to us!
The State Library’s public events and free exhibitions are among our most popular activities. In fact, the Library has been attracting the culturally aware for a number of years with great literary talks, fashion events, photography slide-nights and by hosting the ever-popular World Press Photo exhibition each year. The likes of Nick Cave, Tim Freedman, Leah Purcell, Charles Pickering, Abbey Lee Kershaw as seen in Vogue Sept 2008, and LOVER – just to name a few – have participated in events at the Library.
Please note: The Mitchell Library reading room is not open on Sundays.
